Even those who are new to computers know that taking regular backups of data is very important. Not just for business but also the individuals need to have a proper data backup strategy to protect important data. Your business contacts, emails, presentations, documents, contracts and other important data stored on computers need to be backed up.
However, having saved your files on your personal computer is not sufficient. It does not guarantee that all data will be saved forever because accidents and system failures do happen. And that’s the reason you need to take back up of your data at regular intervals. Common scenarios that can leave your data in jeopardy are:
1) Files/folders on hard drive deleted by accident.
Data can be deleted by accident or due to human error. You must first find which are the important files/folders and then plan a regular back of those files/folders
2) Data is destroyed from hard disk error.
When there is a hard disk failure, either you have to repair it or you may have to buy a new hard disk. In both cases, you have to reformat the hard disk. Thus you complete data will be erased. But if you have performed a data backup before the hard disk error, you can easily restore your data from the backup!
3) Data destroyed due to Virus infection
If your data is infected due to virus, it becomes difficult to recover the data. Though you can use antivirus software to recover the infected data, it is always advised to take regular backups beforehand to skip any unwanted situation. Having a good antivirus software installed is a good precautionary measure but you should not ignore the importance of data backup.
4) Computer physically destroyed.
In worst case, your computer may be physically destroyed due to natural disaster or fire or it may be stolen. Its a very unfortunate scenario but you need to be prepared for it. Having backup of the important data may help you to restore it to a new computer.
Since loss of data can be a very serious problem for anyone, taking regular data backup is always advised. Not just taking backup of data but also storing it in a safe place is important. Find good data backup software for you to help you in taking backup. However, in most cases, you can just store your data on separate external hard drive, CD, DVD, Flash drive etc. But make sure that you place them in a secure place.
If you want additional backup strategy, you can store your files on a secured online server/save your data on cloud. But if you are going to use this option, ensure that the data is always encrypted.
